Arts Hub Debate

Community Wellbeing - Lifestyle & Enjoyment

Option 1

The resident argues that the existing arts council has not demonstrated sufficient dynamism or effectiveness to justify the establishment of a new arts hub. They highlight that the arts are already supported through other local institutions and venues, which also receive funding and host events. Consequently, the resident believes that the proposed arts hub is unnecessary, given the presence of multiple existing facilities that serve similar functions within the community.

1216.8 The arts council has not proven itself to be a particularly dynamic organisation. Arts are funded though other institutions like the NCMA and the Suter and arts events funded via grants of dubious value from the Regional Development Agency. I support an increase in arts funding but not funding an arts hub. We already have a number of those eg Fairfield House, the Boathouse and the Theatre Royal.
